iTunes 12 for Windows mini player does not show...
I recently bought a Windows laptop and am running the latest version of iTunes (12.6). I use the mini player but it does not show the name of the song that is playing, as the Mac version does. There is the list of what's up next, history, lyrics, and the album artwork. On the Mac the song name and artist is under the play/pause controls. Here in Windows that space is empty. I cannot get the song name to show. Ever. The only way I can see what is currently playing is to close the mini player and look at the full iTunes window. Is there a way to fix this?
They have a team of "Geniuses" that change perfectly good and useful features for every single product apple has and try to make them as useless as possible. They get paid to do that. I have been using apple products on my pc since 2011 because i made the mistake of choosing iPhones. I am tired of having to accommodate myself to useless changes. its like they have nothing better to do...
Latest update from Apple doesn't fix this issue... this lack of info is annoying especially in a multitasking environment. Is there a way to downgrade iTunes to version 11 on Windows 10?
If the artwork is hidden, the song title, artist and album will appear IF the cursor is not in the window:
If the cursor is in the window, all you'll see is the controls. This is from version 12.6.2.20.
I know cjahn50... this should be the normal behaviour of all 12.x versions, on Mac OS and Windows. But in my case (and maybe not only mine) this "automatic switch" doesn't work... I'm seeing only the controls and never the song title. Maybe it's necessary to uninstall the program. Maybe this happen because I've Windows Creators Update installed... I don't know where's the problem or what is causing it, but I would like to fix it because now the "user experience" with iTunes is somewhat unhandy.
FWIW, I installed 12.6.1.25 on a Windows 10 PC last week. The mini player worked the same way as it does now on Windows 7 Pro. I have to assume - yes, I know that's dangerous - that the issue is in iTunes. Perhaps a fresh install would help, especially if the version you're running has been updated over a period of time.
The screen scrape I posted is from a Windows 7 Pro PC that was rebuilt about a month ago and iTunes started it's life as version 12.6.1.25 and was updated yesterday.
And, you'll get no argument from me, the "new" mini player is awful.
Agree, but if you need to manage Apple TV, iPhone, and your icloud library, you'll need to use iTunes. I've installed MusicBee as MP3 Player but my library is made with iTunes and I don't want to rebuild it from scratch. I've just switched from Mac to PC (after 12 years of Mac OS) and this is the only issue I've met in this situation.
No argument. I use iTunes to manage my Apple devices. It is not my primary media app by any means. And, I back up iTunes and its libraries using SyncToy, so rebuilding iTunes is really straightforward.
I'm agree. Just a little info. Do you know an alternative media app that manage/organise audio files in the same iTunes's way? In short... if I add some mp3s the application should store them in its database, after creating folder with "artist/album" rule. What application are you using for your media files?
Mini-player shows track details for me too. Can also be expanded to show artwork, and further to show Up Next. I'd suggest a full tear down and rebuild.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Right-click on the setup file and run the installer as administrator. It may also help to pre-install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable. In some cases you may also need to temporarily disable any anti-virus software.
Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, or want to revert to an older version if the current one won't work properly for you at the moment.
Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

I had this problem too (iTunes 12.7.0 on High Sierra 10.13) but I found the answer! When the miniplayer is showing large artwork, but no track info, click on the artwork and then choose the three dots in the bottom left of the control bar. Then choose "Hide MiniPlayer large artwork". Now when you stop hovering over the controls, the track info will show up. THEN, go back to the same spot and click "Show MiniPlayer large artwork". Now you will get the artwork AND the track info. From my testing, you only have to do this once.
