Halo smoke detector does not recognize my Time ...

My new smoke doctor can not recognize a 5 Ghz network.

I am using a Time Capsule as my router.

In Airport Utility ( OS 10.12.6 ), I see both 5 and 2.54 Ghz networks set to automatic. How can I set up a second network with only 2.54 Ghz?

Unfortunately, it appears that the smoke detector is using quite old wireless technology.

Open AirPort Utility, click on the Time Capsule, and then click Edit in the smaller window that appears

Click the Wireless tab at the top of the next window

Click the Wireless Options button near the bottom of the window

Enter a check mark in the box next to 5 GHz Network Name

Click Save

Click Update at the lower right of the window

Now, the 2.4 GHz network has the "original" network name that you assigned and the 5 GHz network has the original name with "5 GHz" added to the name.   So, you now have separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. For example, the network names might look something like:

Wireless

Wireless 5GHz

Point the smoke detector at the 2.4 GHz network

If you want your other devices to connect to the 5 GHz network, you will have to "point" them at that network to connect. If you don't, then the devices will continue to connect to the slower 2.4 GHz network
