internal speakers do not show in sound system p...

Since upgrading my Macbook Pro mid 2011 to High sierra, the internal speakers do not show in sound system preferences.

<Re-Titled by Host>

If you have not tried this already, please try it.

Go step by step and test.

1. Reset PRAM.   https://support.apple.com/kb/PH18761

2. Reset SMC.

Choose the method for “If the battery is  non-removable”.

      https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

3. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup

    Audio Devices window

    Side Bar

    Click the Built-in Output.

Make sure that  box is not checked under “Mute”.

Make sure that Format is set at 44100.0 Hz.

Right click on the Built-in Output for  available options.

4. Plug in and  remove the headphone.

If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone

in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.

Sound output may be stuck in digital mode.

5.Launch iTunes and play a song through headphone and adjust the volume  in mini-player.

6. If this doesn’t help, please contact Apple.

Hi Dominic, hi folks.

Your suggestion 4. was the correct one.

I wrote was, because I solved my problem after deducting that somehow, the audio connector was probably sensing something even with nothing plugged in. I tried earphones and they worked well but after unplugging, the internal speakers were still not showing. I didn't try the plug/unplug routine, since I got your answer after I solved the problem,  but instead used a shish-kebab wood stick and poked it in the connector, gently turning it around and suddenly, the internal speakers were shown in the sound preference panel.

Thanks and best regards.

Jean Lemire from Richelieu, Quebec, Canada.
