Scaling issues external screen

Hi!

So I use to connect my Macbook Pro with an external tv through a HDMI to watch movies. Or rather, the Mac goes into my receiver and then from the received to the tv. I watch movies on VLC, MPV and Netflix (in Safari). What bothers me is that the picture on the tv keeps auto-adjusting in all these applications, sometimes zooming in on the picture (making it too big), and sometimes when subtitles appear on the bottom the picture jumps upwards. Regardless of my underscan/overscan settings, the resolution/scaling/picture keeps auto-adjusting while I want it to stay static according to my preferences.

This only seems to happen when I connect my Mac with the tv, and no other device (I used a windows pc for 3 years without it happening once, and another windows pc did not produce the issue either). If anyone has got a fix for this then that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for you time.
