Being billed for 2 iTune Accounts

I just figured out that I've been billed for 2 iTune accounts.  I had a single account and then decided I wanted the family shared plan.  I thought that the single account would be automatically cancelled and that did not happened.  How do I cancel one?  Also, isn't the whole purpose of having one family share plan is to enable the family to hear iTune music at the same time with out interruption and not being able to listen at the same time on different devices.

Can you tell me how I can get one of the charges dropped and if it is possible for two people to listen to music at the same time?  Because this is really annoying.
