2017 macbook pro 2 external monitor setup

I am trying to get 2 external monitors to work with the 2017 MacBook pro with 2 USB type c ports. Thinking of having  one output to hdmi, while my other USB c would give USB a, as to be able to use a dongle to suppport another VGA monitor. Thinking of using a displaylink adapter for the later. Thoughts, and will it work? I am a student and cannot afford a expenssive dock!
