My Seagate Hard Drive can't be written on

My Hard Drive Is NTFS Formatted and I don't want to format it because it has over 500 GB of my important mac backups with important things in the folders. I don't know how this happens but sometimes my mac lets me write on that hard drive and i'm like ***. Please tell me whats going on!

Hi,

Macs cannot natively write to NTFS formatted discs. You're sure your Mac has written to it in the past? Do you have special software which allows you to do it? Is it possible you have more than one partition on it, and sometimes you're writing to the Mac formatted one?

I don't use any software that makes my hard drive writable on my mac.

Seagate usually supply drivers to read/write to their drives on a Mac, otherwise you can't, you must have installed it.

Then someone has made modifications to the OS using Terminal?

Do you have more than one partition on the drive?

My suggestion is to reformat the disk drive to HFS+ which is the native format for Mac. Instead of using NTFS which is the native format for Windows. This will cause you far less problems in the long run.

Of course, you will back everything on this disk drive first because the reformat will erase everything.

I had that Software once, Then my trial ran out

The fact that it ran out is why you cant access the drive.

Don't have something to put my data on temporary

no

Then buy something, you need somewhere to put your stuff unless you just want to lose it.
