How high is too high for kernel
I've begun the practice of keeping Activity Monitor open (to keep an eye open for any memory overloads), and I've noticed that the "kernel_task" indicator is often in the 500s or 600s in terms of MB, often acting as the most memory-intensive process on my machine.
I found this article that partially answered my question. But one thing it didn't tell me was what exactly is the optimal level of memory for kernel_task? How high can it go before I should be worried?
Mine is currently 1.04GB and my Mac Pro is running just fine.
I do not think you should use kernel_task size as an indicator of anything. I think you should use the tool provided, "Memory Pressure".
