Macbook Pro internal hard drive into external h...

My MacBook Pro recently stopped working (the graphics card tested bad). My question is am I able to pull out the hard drive, install it into an enclosure (a USB External hard drive enclosure) and simply plug it in as an external hard drive for another Mac without losing everything on the hard drive?

Wow thank you for the fast response! I didnt expect it to be that easy. I guess the next step will be to look up the hard drive info on my MacBook and start looking for a compatible enclosure

Just came across your post.   I just had the same thing happen to my 2008 MacBook Pro.  The logic board is bad. 

Did you ever find a compatable enclosure?  If so, could you share which one you found and where you bought?  I have a 200 GB Serial ATA 7200 rpm drive.  Would like to use it as an external now.

www.macsales.com have numerous external enclosures for sale starting at about $15 for a USB interface

Yes. Suggest you go to www.macsales.com and look at their instlation videos. I bought a 750GB drive and installed it into my MBP. I think if you can change a tire you can change the disk. They have apackage ooffering with an enclosure and a disk for abot $130. Be sure to buy their tools for $2.95.

You need a SATA 2.5" enclosure. Connectivity should be USB 2.0 for the cheap option, or you can look for firewire /USB 3.0 if you need extra speed with significant extra cost.

To take out your hard drive you just need a screw driver with the size of screws on bottom of your laptop.

There are 4 torx pegs on the drive. You can either buy screwdriver for those if you dont have , or take it to an electronics repair shop /apple store and they will unscrew them so you can get the drive in enclosure. And dont lose those . ^^

I have a 2011 Mac book pro and the logic board went out. I know I need the external hard drive case but I don't know which one to buy.  How do I find out?
