"Disk Not Ejected Properly"

Is it just me, or does anyone else get extreme pleasure in seeing this after yanking a thumb drive out, or having it appear for no reason when the machine wakes up attached to an external drive that's always attached?

Even if we know nothing will happen, it's one of my last guilty pleasures to thumb my nose at Apple when I see this message. I do it on purpose and love it. :-)

Because of Energy Star requirements, Apple has reduced the power budget for connected USB devices in sleep. Drives without a separate Power supply sometimes malfunction when the computer goes into sleep (and lowers the supplied USB power or drops it completely).

Solutions include providing a separate power supply or precluding sleep entirely.

When a Drive IS elected properly, the temporary RAM copy of the Directory is copied back to the drive before Eject, maintaining data integrity.
