No power Mac book pro. any suggestions? I tried the SMC

I have. Powers up for about 3 seconds max, by the time password is entered it shuts down completely again.

Sounds like serious hardware problem, probably time to call local Apple Store to set up appointment so that they can examine it. Afterwards they will tell you your alternatives.
