AOL and Mac Mail

I just discovered that Mail and AOL mail are mirroring one another. I only want AOL to download mail to Mail. I do

not want AOL to delete what I might have deleted in Mail nor do I want Mail to delete what I've deleted in AOL.

My Mail account has 1000s of emails. I don't think that AOL will allow me to store all my emails indefinitely so I

would like to be able to delete older emails on AOL without it also deleting all the same emails on my Mac Mail.

Again, I only want AOL Mail to download emails to Mail. I do not want the two to be mirror images of one other.

This sounds like you have IMAP accounts which will download/make available/sync any email from any email provider. You would need to change your mail setup to POP which keeps them separate. That would a) involve your ISP to see what they offer (some only offer one or the other) and then b) establish/set up your Mail app to be POP, and the last step c) would mean you set up your AOL account as POP.
