No sound with iMessage

When i send a text from iPad to iPod via iMessage , no sound alert for text incoming!

Have you gone to Settings > Sounds and made sure the sounds are turned on?

When you go to Settings>Sounds is vlume on/high and do you have a tone selected for text message?

I have noticed the same thing.  I do have a tone set for text messages.  When I get a regular text message, the tone does sound but when i get a iMessage nothing sounds at all.  Doesn't make sense to me why a regular text message has an alert but iMessage doesn't.

This exact same thing is happening on my 4s as well.  Alert tone for 'regular' text, but not for imessage.  Anyone know of a fix?

I just noticed this myself. My friend had been complaining that I never respond to his texts (I've got a Verizon iPhone 4s and he has an AT&T iPhone 4s, both running IOS 5.0.1) but then I noticed the text alert sound was not playing.

I have the same issue, i get a screen alert but no tone..... it was working fine but seems to have fallen silent despite all my settings being correct...... anyone know the solution please?

I'm in the UK on the 3 network.

I seem to have fixed this, at least on my phone. I rebooted the phone and then iMessage text alerts played as expected. Give it a try!

I'm experiencing the same thing too. All I hear is that whoosh sound incoming and outgoing but not the sound I set for text message alerts. Might try the reboot as suggested above.

I had the same problem after upgrading to iOS 6.0.1. The alert sound only works if you 1.) close out of Messages and go to the home screen. 2.) close the Messages app completely 3.) leave screen on while viewing main message screen which list all messages by sender's name. I found a work around but it is not a fix. Go to -->Settings-->Notifications -->Messages and turn on the "View in Lock Screen" option.  This will allow the alert sound for Messages to work consistently again.  You may want to turn off the preview option as well. Again, this is not a fix but I have to assume Apple is aware of the issue given the numerous posts I have Googled. Good Luck.

I also have this problem... then I tried sliding the message towards left in the inbox... I showed .. show alerts/hide alerts... I clicked on show alerts ...it worked
