Monitor Loose Making a Shaking Noise
I purchased a Macbook Pro 13" Retina Early 2015 version(I am still under warranty). I recently picked up my Macbook and noticed a shaking noise coming from the internal components. This was very odd as the computer has never been dropped and pretty much lives on my desk. I took the computer into the local Apple store for the genius bar to take a look at it. Genius is far from what they were, I was told that there was no loose parts in the base of my laptop where all the components are located. The source of the noise was in fact coming from the screen portion of my laptop. Apparently the LCD monitor is mounted within the case of the screen and supposedly mine came loose. I asked for the monitor to be fixed as this computer is still under warranty. I was told that my case would forwarded to "engineering" some fantasy land located at Apple. A couple days later I was told that this issue has been seen in very few cases and that I should not worry about damage. This is completely unacceptable as anyone knows that shaking electronics might not break now but could definitely cause problems in the future like screen failure, when I am probably out of warranty. I asked to speak with the manager who told me to bring the computer back to the Apple store so he could personally look at it. After bringing back the computer, the manager pressed on the upper left hand side of the screen and tilted the computer back and forth which lessened the shaking noise. He then preceded to tell me that the screen was in specifications but he would forward my case again to "engineering". With the same results I was told that this would not be fixed under my warranty. The manager then suggested that I purchase the applecare plan for $250. I cannot believe the nerve that apple has they wont fix the problem that should obviously be under warranty then suggest i purchase there extended warranty plan, for what ***** and giggles so they can tell me the same thing. I have never had a laptop with this problem not even $300 laptops I purchased an Apple for there great products and pride but have seriously been let down. I will never purchase another Apple product after this experience. The computer should not be shaking under any circumstances. This computer cost $1500 and they wont even back there product.
Has anyone else had this problem?
I am trying to bring some noise to this topic if anyone else is experiencing this please reply if we get together they will have to address this problem.
Hey there LKA1988,
Just to make you feel a little better about the situation, I have two Mackbook Pro early 2015's that do this same thing. I noticed by accident one day when picking up my MBP. Did some searching and found that other people have the same issues. Tested this on my gf's MBPr (purchased same day as mine) and hers makes the same noise. I admit that it bothers me a little, but also feel better that mine is not the only one. I love my MBPr more than any other devices I've ever owned and know these devices are very solid, judging by how I see others treat their MBP. I would just buy the AppleCare and live with the assurance that if it does cause a problem, they will fix it under the extended warranty. TBH, I would rather live with the noise that many have, versus having them take apart my new laptop.
good luck!
Hey Arsenutsjr,
I figured i would let you know that I had the same feelings about them taking apart my brand new computer. I also found out that taking your laptop to an authorized apple care center instead of a Apple Store which can be more biased towards not fixing the issue is a much better route. They will look at the computer objectively unlike the Apple Store, I recently took my computer to one of these premier authorized Apple service centers and they told me that they have never seen this before in the Apple computers. I was told that they had to fully diagnose the problem before they could tell me if it was covered on warranty, this consisted of a possible $45 charge if it was not covered on warranty but if it was covered it would be no charge. I let them diagnose the computer and I was told it would be covered under warranty it took 3 days for them to complete the repair. I just picked it up yesterday and it is like brand new no noise or sounds coming from the computer at all!! I especially wanted to let you know that if the computer was out of warranty the repair on my Retina screen would have costed $637. They put a brand new Retina LCD screen in my computer that cost $500. I hope this helps you out some also, you should fight for them to fix your computer screen. I love my mac it is one of the best computers that I have ever owned but apple definitely needs to be forced to fix there manufacture errors. Thanks for letting me know that I was not the only one who had this problem like Apple was trying to portray!
Good Luck!!
I have the same problem with my Mac same year.
I am experiencing this exact issue with a 2016 MBP with touch bar. First time I brought this to an Apple Store they agreed it was an issue and ended up replacing the top case and battery. Around a month later I noticed the Mac still has this issue. I returned to the same Apple Store where two new geniuses told me this was the display moving within it's housing, that they extra space was intended to accomodate expansion of the body when the machine warms, furthermore that they have spoken with Apple about this and have been told this was to be expected. I asked for any public facing documentation to back up this claim but they could not produce any. Needless to say I find it difficult to believe that Apple, a company that promotes itself as striving towards perfection in it's products, would design a product whose parts knock or rattle in this manner. This is the third MBP I have owned, the fourth that I have used day to day for any extended period of time, and not one of them before have been afflicted with this issue.
