Hard Drive shortcuts in Dock

I have two of my drives 'docked' in the right hand side of the dock next to the trashcan, a 1TB drive and a 500GB drive, both with different names.

I replaced the 500GB drive with a 1TB drive that is identical to my other 1TB drive, but now I cannot have both of them in the dock at the same time.

Just to test, I put the 500GB drive back in and I can once again have two drives in the dock?!

For some reason MacOS Sierra will not allow me to put two exact same drives with different names in the dock. 

Has anybody else experienced this? I've deleted the Dock and Finder prefs, still nothing. This is a clean 10.12.6 install on a 2010 MacPro.

I DO NOT know the cause.  But a workaround might be

Create an Alias for the drive (or drives)

Put the Alias somewhere you will not accidentally delete it.

Drag the Alias to the Dock

Well I ended up spliting the second drive into two partitions which also helped. I couldn't find anything related on the net about this so I submitted a bug report to Apple.
