MacBook Air won't charge my iPhone 8?

I just bought a new iPhone 8 and my air will not charge it..... when I plug my phone into the usb connected to my air it will charge for a second, not charge, charge for a second, not charge and so on.... does anyone know the issue? thanks in advance
