Updating iPad

Trying to update my iPad to 11.0.3 via my Mac.  I plug in the iPad but when I click on my device no Summary appears and no option to update.  I usually do this wireless and never use iTunes so I know little of iTunes.  I only have 600 of memory left so insuffient to do it wireless.
