Chrome chill

Chrome crashes unexpected. My search engine is then reset to "chill tab" on its own. What kind of adware is on my mac? I tried Malwarebytes and Sophus to scan the virus, but no luck. How do I remove this adware?

Unfortunately, your utility doesn't remove it. It continues to re-load itself. According to my Safari extensions list, it's a very dangerous bit of adware.

How do you remove it then?

Tried it but the problem persists. Safari is suffering from the same adware. It prompts "Are you sure you want to install the extension “Chill-Tab”?"

Just got rid of it. Use an app zapper application to remove every trace of all browsers except Safari. You can't erase Safari, so I exported my bookmarks and trashed every Safari file I could find. Restarted my computer, re-installed or re-loaded software, and it seems to be gone. Interested to note that anti-virus/malware software didn't find it. I hope this is the end of it.

Same issue, but mine is associated with Safari. I never use Safari, but it just started launching the app and tries to install the "Chill-Tab" extension. I tried Malwarebytes and DetectX mentioned in this post, but the problem persists. Any help would be appreciated.

Without seeing a snapshot of a system that has this problem, there's not much anyone here can do for any of you.

What is needed is the system profile report from DetectX's Inspector View (as I mentioned above, either use Command-2 on the keyboard or View > Inspector View. Click the 'Copy button to copy, no need to select anything), either posted here or (if you don't want to post that info publicly) to me privately via the Help menu's 'Report a Problem to Sqwarq' function.

If anyone could also tell me anything they know about where they think they got this infection from that would also be very helpful.

Please choose Contact Support from the Help menu, in the menu bar at the top of the screen, within Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. The e-mail message that will send to Malwarebytes support will give us a clearer picture of what might be going on.

I wrote a little diagnostic program to help show what adware is installed. Download EtreCheck from https://www.etrecheck.com, run it, and paste the results here. EtreCheck is perfectly safe to run, does not ask for your password to install, and is signed with my Apple Developer ID. When you are done, EtreCheck can be thrown in the trash.

If adware is installed, EtreCheck will help you remove it, although you may have to supply a password. If you aren’t comfortable with that, just post the EtreCheck report here and other helpers can tell you exactly what files need to be deleted and how to do so.

This seems to be a new adware. I have seen a couple of similar posts this morning. EtreCheck works differently than other tools. EtreCheck can detect and remove adware even if it hasn't been added to the known adware list of other tools. I suggest posting your EtreCheck report here, even if you use EtreCheck to remove the adware. Some adware actively resists removal and might be difficult to identify. EtreCheck will flag them in red where it can.
