macbook wont connect to my imessage or facetime

I just got a macbook from someone and every time I go to log into my imessage or facetime or even apple id it says i need to type in the password and put the verification code in so I sit there with my phone and the code pops up on my phone but there is no where to type it on my macbook. I am not sure how to make it work

Try restarting your MacBook, and then try the same thing again. If that doesn't work, I would log out of FaceTime and iMessage on your MacBook and then try to relogin and enter the verification code it sends you.

Go to your iPhone and click on messages and then text message forwarding and click the box that allows your computer to receive messages. You may have to turn off your verification while you complete this process but I am not certain. Make sure that box is checked on your iPhone though.
