can send but not receive email

Just got my daughter a MacBook Pro for college and tried to set up the mac mail application. I copied all her account settings over from our iMac. On that computer I have Entourage installed. On the new laptop, I can send emails but not receive them. I get a message saying "There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for the account..." The Entourage program on the other computer still works and all the account settings are the same so it seems to an issue with mac mail. Her email account is with comcast. When I view the connection doctor, it says logging into account and the timer thing just keeps spinning around (for incoming mail). Any suggestions?

Can receive mail but cannot send, I was with AOL for 3 hours yesterday and finally said in was the Mac Mail problem

I was Verizon and then AOL took the contract for Verizon mail

Instead of tagging onto and resurrecting a 6 year old solved thread you should start your own thread. Provide details of your setup and issue.
