Have you lost Notes after syncing to a new iPad?

I recently brought a new iPad in the process of syncing everything from the old to the new I lost everything in the notes app. I checked iCloud and they weren't there either.

I rang Apple Support (twice) and they didn't seem to know why this would happen. One technician went through what seemed like a very complicated process for such a simple problem and he still couldn't restore my notes. After days of looking on discussion boards and YouTube for solutions and trying everything I could think of, I gave up.

I want to try and sell the old iPad so I started the process of erasing the data. During this process I noticed it said 'do you want to restore data from an old backup' (or words to that effect). I thought to myself, I wonder if that will get my notes back?

I gave it a one last ditch effort and it worked! My notes were there!

I can't believe Apple didn't just tell me to do that in the first place.

If you have the same problem, back your device and give it a try, it worked for me.

PS Don't keep anything important in Notes.
