restored calendar in icloud not on Mac

I hope someone can help please.  I was updating details of future repeat calendar events in my MAC (saving "only for this occurrence of the event"), and suddenly all the previous entries of this repeated event disappeared.

I had recorded important information within the details of these events and need them back. 

I searched for help, and followed this https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT205018 to restore the last saved version of my icloud calendar from a couple hours earlier.  This restored version now appears in the www.icloud calendar and has also synced to my iPhone 7.  But it has not synced on my MAC.  My MAC is still showing the version where all my important repeat events have disappeared, instead of syncing with my restored version. 

I have tried refreshing the calendars on my MAC, and I also unchecked and recheck my calendars in the icloud account section. I've restarted a few times too. How do I get my calendar on my MAC to sync with the icloud version I selected to restore? My iPhone has no problem with this.  Prior to attempting to restore the previous version of my calendar from my icloud account, the MAC, iPhone and icloud were all in sync.

My Mac OS is Sierra 10.12.6.
