Macbook Pro macOS Sierra 10.12.5: Keyboard not ...

Hi,

I am trying to back up my phone using Samsung's Smart Switch app. However after plugging the phone and detected by the app, the keyboard on my macbook pro stopped working. I can't type letters and numbers and the shortcut keys for Spotlight (CMD + Space) shows emoticons not Spotlight Search. However ESC key works. To get it back to work, I have to restart my macbook. I tried multiple times and the error is consistent.

Anyone have the same experience?
