iMac as an External Monitor

I am starting a new job where I will be working from home.  My new company is providing me a Chromebook.  I would like to use my iMac which has two thunderbolt ports as an external monitor.  Will this be possible?

If all else fails you can run x-windows. That has the advantage of letting you copy-paste between the chromebook's linux and your imac's osx, so you can run some things (mail, Messages, etc.) as mac apps where you prefer them.

iMacs can definitely be used as an external monitor for another Mac. The feature is called Target Display Mode. Here's how you use it:
