Files saved to desktop doesn't show up

Sometimes it happened but now, every time I save a file to Desktop, it did not shows up. I have to use Spotlight to find out the file and then drag it to Desktop.

I cannot figure out what's happening and how to troubleshoot this. Any help?

My system is El Capitan (v. 10.11.6)
