Caps lock key on PS/2 keyboard doesn't work in ...

I have an ergonomic PS/2 keyboard that I'd like to use with my MacBook Pro (running 10.12.6) on the occasion that I have to type for long periods. I have a PS/2 -> USB adapter that works just fine on all my other computers, and works MOSTLY fine on my rMBP (I'm using said keyboard to type this now) but the caps lock key absolutely refuses to respond. I tried a more generic PS/2 keyboard with the same adapter and had the same problem. I then tried both keyboards with said adapter on my old g5 iMac, and low and behold, the caps lock keys work just fine for both. Why does just this one key not work in Sierra, and how can i make it work?

I don't actually care about the caps lock functionality itself, but they keyboard lacks CMD/Windows keys, so i want caps lock to become one of my modifiers. What did Apple break between 10.5 and 10.12 (yeah yeah, it's a huge gap) that prevents MacOS from registering my caps lock key, and how do i fix it?

The Windows key on your keyboard should map directly to Apple's COMMAND key. Alt maps to OPTION, Ctrl maps to CONTROL.

The keyboard keys' defaults can be changed in Keyboard preferences by clicking on the Modifier keys button.

As I already stated, the keyboard I want to use DOES NOT HAVE a windows or command key. If it did I wouldn't have had a problem. I'm trying to make the caps lock key register so I can set it to control, so that I still have a control key when I rebind the hardware control keys to command. Alternatively, mapping JUST ONE of my control keys to serve as a command key would be acceptable, but the system option for swapping modifier keys does not allow the swapping of a single mod key if there are 2 of that mod key (i.e.  if you set your command keys to control, BOTH command keys function as control). Your solution does not allow me to have control, command, and option all mapped to my mod keys similtaniously.

You might try using programs that allow you to reprogram macros, but the best solution I have is to get another keyboard. PC keyboards have all the same keys as a Mac keyboard. You must be using an old keyboard.
