How to remove BING from Firefox?
Hi, somehow, one day and for no apparent reason, BING became my default search browser on my Firefox.Does anyone have any idea of who to REMOVE this uninvited program from my computer? I would like to get Firefox to use Google for its searchs. I followed some instructions posted on the website "EHow" but that didn't change anything (except perhaps mess up my mail server...)
All advice appreciated,
Thank you,
Nicaru
nicaru,
In the search bar to the right of where you enter urls, hit the little icon to the left of the search field. The last entry is 'manage search engines'. You can delete Bing from there and move google to the top.

Captfred
Thank you Captfred. Unfortunately that didn't work ; Bing didn't appear in the suggested list of search engines, and Google appears in first place even though, in effect, BING is the actual search engine that works. I tried to place "Google powered search" in first place just to see if that would change anything but it didn't. This is some microsoft program which seems very hard to get rid of -
is there anything else I can try?
thank you very much,
Nicaru
The next thing I would look at is Firefox > tools > Add-ons > plugin tab. You can disable it if you find something in the list.
Also look at the Extensions tab for added extensions.

Thanks again. Unfortunately no luck there either (I had checked that prior to posting). My guess is that Microsoft file name does not include the word 'bing'; when I do an overall search on my computer for anything that includes "bing" I get results leading to this post and other webpages I have reviewed hoping for an answer.
I wonder if by just uninstalling Firefox and reloading it, that would work... but that seems too easy to be true...
thanks
in the Firefox address bar, enter
about:cong
A filter window will appear. Enter
keyword.URL
in the Firefox address bar, enter

A filter window will appear. Enter
keyword.URL
change to
https://www.google.com/webhp?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
Then go to the manage search engines tab to the left of the search engine window and move Google up to the top and/or remove Bing.
Hi, I too have the same problem. I tried the above and when I type about:cong I get an error message "the URL is not valid and cannot be loaded".
I hate BING and want it off my computer. Any other suggestions?
thanks
