How can I enable Emoji on my iMac?

Is it possible to enable the Emoji font on my iMac and my MacBook Pro, just like on my iDevices?

TIA, PeteBell, UK

OS X Mavericks supports Emoji. To use it, open any app and go to Edit menu (in the menu bar, at the top of the display) > Special Characters, and depending on the app, choose "Emoji" in the sidebar. Then, double-click the Emoji you want to add.

It worked for me!!! Thank you!

Most applications allow you to press

Command + Control + Spacebar simultaneously to bring up the full suite of Emojis.

From there you double click on the one you want to insert in your document or application.
