Internet only works if Internet Sharing is on

Hi,

My 2012 MacBook  Air (1.7Ghz Core i7, 8GB memory OSX Sierra 10.12.6),

is having connectivity issues. My WiFi connection is robust and stable (tested on multiple devices including other MacBook Airs).

The only way I can get the internet to work is by turning on Internet Sharing under the Sharing section of System Preferences.

I wouldn't mind just leaving it on, however, at my university (which is protected with 802.1X) I cannot connect to the internet as Internet Sharing is not allowed on the network.

I have tried the following:

  • Restarting the computer
  • Resetting the router
  • Deleting preference plist files (specified by various articles)
  • Running diagnostics tests
  • Renewing DHCP
  • Changing the location
  • Changing MTU to 1453
  • Resetting the PRAM
  • Resetting the SMC

Google Chrome has given me the following error messages:

  1. There is no Internet Connection
  2. DNS Address could not be found
