mac mini + macbook pro virtual machines IP comm...

I need to simulate an environment using multiple VMWare virtual machines and the 16 GB of memory on the Macbook are not enough. If I buy a Mac Mini, can the two computers communicate via Thuderbolt cable such that I can create a few virtual machines on the Macbook and others on the Mac Mini and communicate via IP addresses?

And another question, can I administer the Mac Mini from my Macbook without having to buy also a display? Maybe

also via the Thunderbolt cable (remember the new Macbook Pro has only Thuderbolt ports)
