Home Movies

I read where I could move some .mov files to iTunes and watch my videos that way. When I do that it puts them in a category called "home movies". I am finding that I am only able to watch these from the computer that is running iTunes or from Apple TV as long as the computer is running with iTunes open.

is there a way to save these to my iPad and watch whenever I want, even when I don't have wifi available?

Any help would be appreciated.
