Imac not shutting down

Hi,

I am a new iMac user but I am finding if I try to shut down my iMac, it's just sticking and not shutting down properly.

What do I do?

First do this:

hold the on/off button pressed until it shuts down.

then do a SMC reset and NVRAM reset:

Does it come back after this?

Hi. How do you usually shutdown your Mac? What do you mean by "not shutting down properly"? Do you quit all applications and close all windows before shutting down your machine?

I spent a year tearing my hair out with my imac shutting down either after 5 minutes, or maybe 6 hours - but constantly all day every day ... I tried everything..

Then yesterday my Microsoft Word wouldn't open and kept causing my mac to shut down even MORE than ever, pushing my stress levels through the roof aaargh !  On researching how to solve my Word problem, I read somewhere it could be down to a corrupt font, so I deleted a ton of fonts and....bingo Word worked and at the same time it stopped my Mac from crashing.

To think I had asked advice from so many techie / professional people re the problem and no-one EVER mentioned a corrupt font could be the problem!!!

So I wanted to share this, and PLEASE let me know if it works for you, I hope I have made someone's day and only wish someone had been thoughtful enough to tell me sooner
