Save photos to the macbook NOT THE ICLOUD

I recently lost 5,000 pictures because the icloud is the least user friendly software I have ever encountered and could not be bothered to educate it's users with ALL OF THEIR STUFF.

I bought a macbook.

I backed up all 13k photos to my macbook. That's why I bought it. It's a computer with internal storage. To store things.

I deleted them off my phone because despite having nearly nothing on it, it was always full.

WHOOPS! Magical error of doom! Those photos weren't actually on your phone mother ****** that was a portal to the backed up only existing copy of the photos on your macbook and apple deleted them from existence because surely that is what you're intending to do.

Can someone please explain to me how to put photos on the over $1,000 computer that apparently can't be expected to actually store stuff? I never requested or asked it to load the photos to the whimsical cloud of **** you user. Why aren't they on my computer. There is nothing else on this brand new computer. WHY ARE MY PHOTOS GONE.
