Sharing Icloud with son

If I am sharing icloud with my 12 year old son, will all of his pictures, texts and apps end up on my phone as well?  Is there a way to make this stop?

The recommended approach is for each of you to use your own Apple ID and then use Family Sharing to share selected things.
