Is it a Good Ideal to Turn On My FileVault

I have a 10.12.6 Sierra and for a while I had Avast and Everyone from Communities told Me to get rid of Avast! And I did My Computer is Running Much Faster, But I've been Reading on these Pages about Turning On FileVault? Is it a Good ideal to Turn it On?

If You Want To Keep Your Mac Secure It Is A Good Idea To Turn It On.

It's a terrible idea unless you work for the Gov't and bring home secret papers to work on at home. Of course, that's illegal so you should stop doing it. However, if you have an employer who requires secrecy then you may need to use FileVault. Otherwise, you have little or no need for it.

It is hardly necessary for security if you operate behind a hardware router and use NAT. In this instance, FileVault is simply overkill that slows down the computer. Not the best idea. If FileVault becomes corrupted then one loses the entire disk's content.

100% agree. Commonsense tells you not to check the guillotine by sticking you head through the hole.

Thank You!! John Galt! I Turn it On and Working out Great! Thanks Again for Your Help and Everyone on the Communities for there Help also!

Great! Thanks for the update.

It's a shame when John suggests something so unnecessary without providing some information as to why.

Wait until the first glitch and you lose everything. Best to make a good backup. One day you'll regret this decision.

Seems obvious... but just having turned it on: "Working out Great".

Encrypting everything is just waiting for something to go wrong. Don't know when, don't know how, but Murphy's Law says some day it will...

I do support in Pages and the number of people who just encrypt a document and can't get into it, let alone everything...

Indeed, indeed!! A train wreck waiting to happen. It will be a horror when he forgets the password.

I tell them the only person I guarantee won't be able to get into your files. Is you.

Peter

That's funny, Peter!

Even funnier is that they beg me for someone, anyone, to recover their data that they were trying to keep from prying eyes.

You don't trust even your own family and yet you will let some dubious Russian company with unbelievable hacking skills, found on the Internet, to get access to your Hard Drive? And charge you a motza for their trouble.

People's thinking astounds me.

PeterBreis0807! It really doesn't matter! It could be the FBI, if they want to get to My info! There going to find a way and that goes for Everyone
