Late 2010 iMac suddenly very slow and beachballing

My iMac has been very slow the past couple of days, can't remember doing anything to it that would make it so slow. Some applications won't respond or will take a couple minutes to execute an action. When I try to run my antivirus scan, it won't start scanning. Any ideas?

Uninstall the anti virus software and memory clean and your iMacs performance will likely return to normal.
