Why is my Apple Pencil not working?

When I plug my Apple Pencil into my iPad Pro, it tells me that I have 3% remaining so I allow it to charge. After a few minutes it will be at 100% so I unplug it and try to use it. However it disconnects from my iPad and tells me to plug it in again to pair it. When I do this it tells me that it is on 3% and the same thing happens again. 

Check the tip of your Apple Pencil, make sure it is screwed in tight.

Try a hard reset of your iPad by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons?
