loaner iPhone cracked

I got a loaner phone last Saturday and on Thursday I accidentally dropped it and the screen cracked. When I was getting the phone the guy at Apple said it was ok if I broke it, but try not too, I just can't lose it. I asked why I couldn't lose it and he said because then they would keep my phone. I just want to make sure it is ok if I return the phone back with the cracked screen before I go in to get mine. Is it ok or do I have to pay for it?

In this case you will have to cover full price of screen replacement and you can find that price on apple website. Happened to me as well
