Apple TV on iPad iOS 11?

Hi,

With the previous version of IOS, I would be able to choose to display a video, etc. on Apple TV by swiping up and choosing to send it to Apple TV (Not screen mirroring, although that was an option, too).

Now, with the new update, I can only see how to do the Screen Mirroring via Apple TV.  This compresses the screen and won’t take up the whole screen on the TV.

Can you still choose to send a video to Apple TV so it goes full screen without doing screen mirroring?  If so, can you describe how?

Thanks!

Yes and no—depending on the media player you are using. For instance, the TV app employs a full-feature video player that includes the original "air play" (TV icon) for passing your playing media to an TV device. On the other hand, the new iOS-level (QuickLook preview built into Photos, Mail, Folder, etc.) player only contains a play/pause control and a new image-based timeline controller—forcing the user to fall back to the mirroring feature which—as you already pointed out—employs a "fit within" strategy to map your iPad's 4:3 aspect screen to your HDTV screen which is probably defaulted to a 16:9 aspect ratio.
