MRT in activity monitor is using so much memory...

Theres something running in activity monitor called MRT and it is currently using 34gb of my memory!! Apps are pausing because they can't run. Does anyone know what the problem is and what I can do?

You running something like MacCleaner or MacKeeper on your Mac....?

If so, then you have fallen for there scam and need to remove it ASAP.

If you want to see what is installed and going on with your Mac, run an Etrecheck report and post back with the results.

Thanks for your reply. I am pretty clued up on all of those scams and not knowingly fallen for them. I spoke with Apple on live chat and they advised I download and run some free (trial for 30 days) software called Malwarebytes. This scans your Mac and detects any threats - I had 40!! It's clear now but it is picking up and showing threats it is putting into quarantine every few minutes.

I'll try what you've suggested above too.
