Trying to install apps from internet

As I have a samsung phone I need to download either Smart Switch or Android file transfer so I'm able to backup my phone but when I try to do this it never works. Is there a setting that would enable these products to run downloading them is no problem but when I try to run them they don't work.

Please help!

Sorry I put it in the wrong forum but when I did contact samsung they said it was something to do with the settings on my mac?

Still the wrong forum, as there's no connection between your question and Apple's word processing/page layout application Pages for Mac.

The Mac involvement here is with downloading, installing, and running the application. That's more an OS question than a Pages one. I'll request your question be transferred to the OS X Yosemite community (or elsewhere, at the hosts discretion).

Meantime, you might add some details to your installation procedure:

What actions have you taken? What results did you see after each action? Where in the process do things seem to be breaking down?
