Record, listen, mix in the same room?

I'll be doing a session where I'm recording my group then we'll be listening, doing some initial mixing then going back to record more.  How do I bounce between these if I'm adjusting faders etc?  Do I have to create an alternative mix if I don't want to reset the faders to 0?  Thanks.  E
