Why isn't Enter Time Machine working?

I click on the Time Machine/clock icon, click on Enter Time Machine, and nothing happens. I perform Time Machine backups, so they do exist. My backups are on my Airport Capsule, which is what my network is currently connected to. I am on a Macbook Air, using OS 10.12.6.

Unfortunately Time Machine has become very unreliable on Sierra.

Are you just testing or are you trying to recover files?

Let me suggest a full network restart as the first step in troubleshooting.

Shut down everything.. modem, TC and all clients.. plus any other gear with IP addresses if you have them.

Restart in correct order.

Modem.. wait 2min

TC.. wait 2min

Client devices..

If you can now access your backup.. shout Eureka.. until tomorrow when it will probably stop again.

No luck you need to do a factory reset of the TC and a fresh configuration.. no files are lost doing it.. but you need to redirect your TM to the right place.

Strongly recommend to everyone using Sierra.. and later.. buy a 3rd party backup .. e.g. Carbon Copy Cloner.
