Lightning port too tight

I'm satisfied with my iPad Air, but I've noticed one thing that bothers me - a lot. When I insert the lightning connector, it seems way too tight. I have to jam it in much harder than with the iPad Mini.

This is a new unit. Should I demand a replacement? Am I doing something wrong?

It's tight when new; it will loosen up after a while.

Since it's new bring it by the Apple Store and let them have a look. Snug is one thing, if you have to force it that's another.

Both pieces of advice make sense.

However, my iPad Mini and iPad 4 use the Lightning connector easily; the iPad Air almost needs a wrench. I'm still in the first days of ownership, and I can only imagine how many connectors I'll damage over time. I'll demand an exchange - or, if possible, a fix.

I know this is a very old thread but I came across this when searching for some answers on my current situation. We bought our son a new iPad (2017)  and the first time plugging it in I noticed it took a lot more force to plug-in. Removing it was even more challenging. I asked my son to try and unplug it and he could barely do it.

He just opened it today for his birthday, so we are just going to exchange it tomorrow at Best Buy.  Maybe it's perfectly  harmless, but I've had many many devices over the years and never had an issue like this. Just not going to risk it...
