MBP ’09

Family member with MacBook Pro (Mid 2009) 4GB is currently on OS X 10.9 Mavericks and wants to update to OS X 10.10, but not to El Capitan. The only option in Mac App Store is to update to a newer version of OS X 10.9.5, nothing higher.

Where can he download the full installer for OS X 10.10 Yosemite (which is compatible with the MBP), or will it appear only after making the point update to Mavericks first?

Thanks

Hi,

For whatever reason, Apple only lets you download the newest OS from the App Store unless you've downloaded a different OS before. In this case the newest OS is High Sierra. If your Mac cannot run HS, but can run El Capitan, then you're allowed to run El Capitan. That is your situation: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT206886
