back up taking hours instead of minutes

Good Morning

I last backed up my iPad 2 weeks ago and as normal it took a couple of minutes to back up.

The usual message popped up last night saying my iPad had not been backed up in 2 weeks so I started a back up. When I last looked it told me the estimated time to complete back up was 4 hours and then a few hours into the back up it failed.

I have started back up again this morning and it is currently showing as 3 hours remaining. It has been running a back up for about 30 minutes now.

Why is back up taking hours instead of minutes?
