Shift

I've got a Retina Macbook Pro and I can't type a capital z.  For some reason shift-z just doesn't work.  Shift + any other key works fine.  I can also use caps lock to create a capital z.

I checked keyboard, accessibility and speech settings to see if it was somehow mapped as a keyboard shortcut, but could not find anything.

Help.  I don't want to create a new user (new profile) which I suspect will solve the problem.  Is there any way that I can reset all of my shortcuts?

This happens at times when another app that is running in the background takes over the command. In my case it was ScreenFlow. Pressing Shift + Z on my macbook (Retina Pro 15") paused and unpaused ScreenFlow. When I quit the app, Shift + Z worked fine. Try quitting any background apps and give it a go.
