How can I retrieve lost address book cards?

When I switched over from Verizon to Gmail as my email provider, all entries in my address book disappeared.  Moreover,  I can't add new entries to the address book.  The address cards are not in my iCloud account (full, though I deleted everything but contacts).  Only email addresses could be transferred from my phone (Samsung Galaxy S7) to my iMac (not phone numbers).  Disk Drill was not helpful.  I have a complete address book in a separate "TEST"account on my iMac, but iCloud drive would not allow me to transfer that address book to my own account, which I use every day.  Time machine does not allow recovery of an address book from a time before I switched my email provider.  HELP!!

Given your description of the problem I believe that will offer the most expedient solution.

Log in to that account and archive those Contacts according to Contacts for Mac: Export and archive contacts. Choose a convenient location for the file it creates, such as that Account's Desktop folder.

Then, copy that file to your usual User Account by following these instructions: macOS Sierra: Share files with others who use your Mac.

Then, import that file to your Contacts app by following Contacts for Mac: Import contacts.

Finally, you can delete the redundant exported vCard files from both Accounts and the Shared folder.
