Optimize Mac Storage keeps only less than 5% of...

I'm using 2TG iCloud storage to keep Photos and Documents online. By having 512GB of flash storage on my MacBook Pro, Sierra keeps me only 5% of storage free (ca. 25GB) (using 'df -h' to see real free storage), the rest are OS/Apps and iCloud cache. At the same Finder shows me >100GB of free storage.

So less real free storage, makes me always trouble if I need to copy something bigger than 25GB.

If there is a way to reserve more free space? Or maybe purge local icloud cached files?

In the Photos application/Preferences/iCloud do you have Optimize storage selected?
