How to transfer Mail from macOS Sierra to macOS...

Hi!

I just received my new Mac und wanted to do a clean install and copy some Data later on from a recent TimeMachine Backup.

Somehow my Mails don't show um in Mail.app.

I copied the complete folders ~/Library/Mail and ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail and the file ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist from the TimeMachine Backup to the new system, but when I start Mail.app it only shows me my iCloud Mail Account. I used to have 3 different Mailaccounts configured in Mail, but somehow they do not show up.

Any idea, what's missing?

I managed to solve the problem by copying the contents of the folder ~/Library/Accounts from the TimeMachine Backup to the new computer. Seems like, the actual mail accounts are stored there.

The easiest and most trouble-free method to import your Mail contents is to use Mail's Import Mailboxes function:

https://help.apple.com/mail/mac/10.12/index.html?localePath=en.lproj

You can use it to import Mailboxes from your Time Machine backup.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I have been struggling with it for days until I found your solution which just works.

very strange that Apple don't make it easier to migrate mail when you wanna do a clean install.

Thanks again.
